2021 Sheriff's Department Press Releases Posted on October 19, 2021

All persons arrested or cited are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The following incidents occurred on Monday, October 18, 2021:

Motor Vehicle Crash – 

At 5:56 AM, Deputies and the Monticello Fire Department responded to the N6700 block of County Highway D, Town of Mt. Pleasant, for a report of a one vehicle rollover crash. Investigation revealed that the driver, Zachary A. Hackman, 39 of Albany, was traveling north on County Highway D and was negotiating a left curve in the roadway. Zachary’s vehicle entered the east shoulder and Zachary overcorrected the vehicle which caused it to exit the west side of the roadway, striking a culvert and overturning, landing on its side. 

Zachary was not injured, there was no airbag deployment and he was wearing his seatbelt. The vehicle sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene by Jelle’s Towing. 

Zachary was cited for Inattentive Driving and Failure to Maintain Control of a Vehicle. Zachary was released with a future court appearance. 

Motor Vehicle Crash With Injury – 

At approximately 11:59 AM, Deputies, the New Glarus Police Department, the New Glarus Fire Department, the Monticello Fire Department and UW Med-Flight, all responded to the area of W5200 Exeter Crossing Rd., Town of New Glarus, for a repot of a one vehicle crash with injury. 

Investigation revealed that the operator, Linda E. Derrickson, 74 of Monticello, was traveling west on Exeter Crossing Rd. when she swerved to avoid hitting a squirrel in the roadway. Linda’s vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. The vehicle sustained disabling damage and there was airbag deployment. Linda reported wearing her seatbelt and had to be extricated from the vehicle. 

Linda was then transported by New Glarus EMS to the Monroe Clinic in New Glarus. She was then transported by UW Med-Flight. 

Motor Vehicle Vs. Tractor Crash – 

At approximately 6:58 PM, Deputies, Monroe Rural Fire Department, and Green County EMS, responded to the area of N4200 State Highway 69, Town of Monroe, for a report of a vehicle versus tractor crash. 

Investigation revealed that the operator of the northbound tractor, Daniel R. Rieder, 57 of Monroe, was attempting to turn west on to Benkert Rd. At this time, another northbound vehicle, being operated by John M. Miller, 47 of Monticello, attempted to pass the tractor on the left and collided with the drivers side front tire of the tractor. 

The vehicle sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene. John reported wearing his seatbelt, not being injured and there was no airbag deployment. 

The Tractor sustained functional damage and was driven from the scene. Daniel was not injured in the crash. It was determined that the trailer being pulled by the tractor had turn signals that were not properly functioning. 

OWI Arrest – 

At 11:14 PM, Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 600 block of 30th St., in the City of Monroe. Investigation, and a subsequent search of the vehicle, resulted in the operator, Jessica R. Leibow, 31 of Monroe, being arrested for Operating While Under the Influence of Alcohol, 1st Offense, Possession of THC and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. 

The passenger, Jacob E. Hooper, 28 of Monroe, was also placed under arrest for Disorderly Conduct and Resisting Arrest. 

Jessica and Jacob were both jailed pending posting of their bond or their initial court appearance.
