On August 23, 2024 the Green County Sheriff’s Office received information of multiple incidents of child sexual assaults having taken place within Green County, WI as well as other locations reported by multiple survivors. The assaults were reported to have taken place years prior when the now adult survivors were children. In the multitude of reports, JOHN ERWIN TRACY, 46, of Rural Brodhead, WI was identified as the offender.
This investigation spanned nearly nine months which was led by the Green County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau. During the course of the investigation, probable cause was established to arrest JOHN ERWIN TRACY for child sexual assault crimes with TRACY being arrested on August 27, 2024 and officially charged under 2024CF175 on September 3, 2024. TRACY was charged with three child sex crimes; one count of Repeated 1st Degree Sexual Assault of the Same Child and two counts of 1st Degree Child Sexual Assault - Sexual Contact or Sexual Intercourse with person under the age of 13.
Spanning September 2, 2025 – September 4, 2025 – TRACY’s case had been heard by members of the jury during a three-day jury trial in Green County Circuit Court, members of the jury found JOHN TRACY guilty on all three felony child sex crimes in which he had been charged.
On December 5, 2025 JOHN TRACY appeared in Green County Circuit Court and was sentenced to 35 years in the Wisconsin State Prison system (20 years of initial confinement followed by 15 years extended supervision on each of the three counts). As part of the sentence, TRACY was also placed on the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry as a “Life Time” registrant.
From the time of his arrest through the conclusion of this investigation, JOHN TRACY has remained in law enforcement custody.
