UPDATED NEWS RELEASE  / VEHICLE OPERATORS IDENTIFIED:

On Sunday, September 29, 2024 at approximately 2:02 PM, the Green County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a two vehicle crash at the intersection of State Highway 81 and County Highway T, Town of Spring Grove. Green County Sheriff's Deputies along with Brodhead Police Department, Brodhead Fire Department, Brodhead EMS, and Rock County Sheriff's Office Deputies were dispatched to the scene.

The initial investigation revealed that a black 2012 Honda Civic passenger car operated by lone occupant, ROBERT BROWN, 23, of Lena, IL was traveling Southbound on CTH T when the vehicle failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of STH 81 and CTH T. BROWN's vehicle entered onto STH 81 and into oncoming traffic where BROWN's vehicle was struck by a Westbound blue 2024 Honda CRV SUV operated by a lone occupant, NICOLE FEHRINGER, 47, of Monroe, WI. Both vehicles sustained severe disabling damage along with airbag deployment and were towed from the scene. At the time of the collision, FEHRINGER was properly restrained and sustained non life-threatening injuries. BROWN was also properly restrained and sustained fatal injuries. ROBERT J BROWN, 23, of Lena, IL, was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Green County Coroner’s Office. 

The Green County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Rock County Sheriff's Office (crash reconstruction unit) and the Green County Highway Department (traffic control). The roadway remained closed for approximately 4 hours. No additional information will be released at this time.  

The crash, which is Green County's third traffic fatality of 2024, remains under investigation.
