On Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at approximately 2:09 p.m., Green County Law Enforcement agencies were notified of an armed robbery, that had just occurred at a business along STH 11 in the Rock County Village of Orfordville. Law Enforcement was given a description and license plate number of the suspect vehicle, that reportedly had one male occupant.
At approximately 2:38 p.m., a Monroe Police Officer located the suspect vehicle in the vicinity of STH 69 and STH 11 in the City of Monroe. When the officer attempted to stop the suspect vehicle, it fled southbound in the City of Monroe and officers pursued the vehicle to a business parking lot located along 17th Street and 12th Avenue. Upon stopping, the driver reportedly exited the vehicle, pointed a handgun in the direction of Monroe Police Officers and then turned the handgun on himself. The suspect then reportedly shot himself and despite the efforts of law enforcement and EMS, was pronounced dead at the scene. During the brief confrontation with the suspect, no Law Enforcement Officers discharged their firearms and none reportedly any injuries.
Monroe Police requested that the Green County Sheriff's Office conduct the death investigation, which is ongoing as of the time of this release. Additional information is expected to be available in the coming days.
