This program tests samples of wastewater across the state to track levels of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Samples are taken from wastewater treatment facilities across Wisconsin to determine the amount of SARS-CoV-2 virus present in untreated wastewater. When tracked over time, the amount of virus measured can indicate if COVID-19 activity is increasing or decreasing in a community. This project is a collaboration between the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, Wisconsin State Lab of Hygiene, and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
