Prescription Drug Drop Boxes

Prescription Drug Drop Boxes are a safe, secure way to dispose of unwanted medications. The Drop Boxes are an effort to prevent prescription drug abuse and accidental poisonings in Green County as well as help protect local waterways.

What do I do with needles?

Sharps need to be put in a red sharps container.

You can take the sharps container to any of the sites listed here.

What is NOT accepted?

- NO Needles
- NO IV Bags
- NO Oxygen Tanks
- NO Nebulizer Machines
- NO Thermometers
- NO Bloody Infectious Waste
- NO Hydrogen Peroxide
- NO Business Waste
- NO Sharps, Epi-pens or anything with a needle or lancet

What happens to the medications?

Medications collected at the Drop Box are incinerated and disposed of in the most environmentally safe method currently available.

Illegal drugs cannot be disposed of in the drop box. However, you may turn over illegal drugs to the Sheriff’s Department.

Did you know that 70% of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends? YOU can help prevent the misuse of prescription medication by safely securing your medications. Medication lock boxes are available FREE of cost through a grant at the following locations:
- Green County Public Health Department
- Pinnow Hometown Pharmacy
- Green County Human Services
